Rain Sounds for Sleep
Soft rain on a roof, recorded as a steady, gentle loop. Press play, choose a sleep timer and let it fade out on its own.
The sound fades out gently when the timer ends. In the app it keeps playing with the screen locked.
Why rain sounds are so relaxing
Rain is one of the most popular sleep sounds for a simple reason: it is steady but never quite the same. The patter has enough variation to feel natural, without the sudden changes that make us pay attention. For a child it also carries a cosy meaning: it's wet and cold outside, and warm and safe in bed.
Rain sits close to pink noise: it has a lot of soft, low and middle frequencies and fewer sharp high ones. That's why it can mask household noises without sounding harsh.
How to use rain sounds at bedtime
Start the rain after the story, when the lights are already dim, so that it becomes the signal for sleep. Keep the volume low and the speaker away from the bed. A 30-minute timer is enough for most children to fall asleep; for light sleepers, a longer timer helps them through the first deep-sleep cycle.
Rain in the Droply Kids app
In the app this sound is called Gentle Rain on the Roof and it is free. There is also Distant Thunder and Rain and Cozy Cabin Rain in Droply Premium. Tonight's Bedtime can end with rain automatically, after the story and the meditation.
Questions about rain sounds
Do rain sounds help kids sleep?
Many children fall asleep more easily with a soft, steady sound in the background, and rain is one of the most popular. It covers small household noises and becomes a familiar sleep cue. If your child finds it distracting, try white or brown noise instead.
Is it better to have thunder in rain sounds?
For children, usually not. Thunder is a sudden, loud change, exactly what we want to avoid at bedtime. Choose a gentle rain without thunder.
How long should rain sounds play?
A timer of 30 to 60 minutes covers falling asleep. Some families play it all night at a low volume; that is fine as long as the speaker is not near the bed.
