How it works
A few minutes between the story and sleep
After the story
Tonight's Bedtime places a short meditation right after the story, when your child is already lying down.
Follow the voice
A calm voice guides your child to breathe, relax their body or imagine a quiet place.
Breathe with the flower
On nights when words are too much, Breathe mode shows a flower opening and closing with a soft vibration.
Drift off
A sleep sound follows, and the timer fades it out.
The meditations
Written for children, not shortened adult meditations
Younger children get simple pictures, like a balloon in the tummy, hot cocoa to cool down or a slow little turtle. Older children get body scans, gratitude and a worry jar to put the day's thoughts away.
- 13 meditations for ages 3–8, 13 for ages 9–12
- Rainbow Breathing, Balloon Belly, Feather Breath, Hot Cocoa Breath
- Body Scan Relaxation, The Worry Jar, Square Breathing, Leaves on the Stream
Why meditation helps children at bedtime
Many children are physically tired but mentally busy at bedtime: the day replays, tomorrow worries them, or they're simply excited. A short guided meditation gives their attention something calm to follow. Slow breathing, especially a long out-breath, also helps the body shift into rest.
Meditation for kids doesn't need silence or sitting still for long. A few minutes of breathing with a picture, like a balloon, a flower or the colours of a rainbow, is enough. The key is doing it regularly, at the same point of the evening.
How to introduce meditation to your child
- Try it together first, and lie down next to them.
- Keep it short: 3 minutes for young children, 5 for older ones.
- Make it part of the routine, after the story and before the lights are fully off.
- Don't correct them. If they wriggle or giggle, that's fine. It gets easier with practice.
- Talk about it in the daytime, too, so they can use the breathing when they're upset.
A note on what meditation is and isn't
Meditation is a calming habit, not a treatment. If your child's sleep or worries are affecting their days, talk to your doctor. Droply Kids can be a gentle part of the evening, alongside whatever your family needs.
